There isn’t too much information available regarding becoming a Nebraska unclaimed money finder.
The only two requirement I was able to find comes from Nebraska’s legislative statutes, specifically Section 69-1317.Abandoned property; trust funds; record; professional finder’s fee; information withheld; when; proceeds of sale; transfers; Unclaimed Property Cash Fund; created; investment
“It states that:
The record shall be available for public inspection during business hours.
The record shall not be subject to public inspection or available for copying, reproduction, or scrutiny by commercial or professional locators of property presumed abandoned who charge any service or finders’ fee until twenty-four months after the names from the holders’ reports have been published or officially disclosed.
A professional finders’ fee shall be limited to ten percent of the total amount of the property presumed abandoned. To claim any such fee, the nature and location of the property must be disclosed to the claimant by the finder.”
So basically, you cannot go after any claim unless it has been considered abandoned for at least twenty-four months and you cannot charge more than 10% commission.
You can read the complete Nebraska Unclaimed Property Statutes here.
Other than that, there isn’t much else. The Nebraska unclaimed money site doesn’t give too much information regarding the unclaimed money.
They don’t even state how much money is being held by the state.
I do plan on calling them and asking them if they sell a list for finders.
If you are reading this and you see that there is nothing regarding the list, please send me a note!
Now, just because you live in Nebraska, it doesn’t mean that you cannot search for unclaimed money in other states.
As I mention several times on this site, we are in New York, but we do not search for unclaimed money in New York unless someone specifically asks us to or if it is for friends or relatives.
Finding unclaimed money for other people and getting paid for it is exciting, fun, and profitable.
